WILLIAM MEREDITH ANDREWS

Born William (Bill) Meredith Andrews in Chicago, Illinois July 4, 1956. I graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin in 1978 with a BA in Art and in 1980, graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas with a Master of Arts degree in Biomedical Communications.

I went to work as a medical illustrator for St. Luke's Episcopal and Texas Children's Hospitals in Houston. hi 1983, an opportunity came to join Dr. Denton A Cooley's staff at the Texas Heart Institute. In 1990, I became the Manager of the graphics department at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, and in 1993, I went into private practice, and was confirmed as a Certified Medical Illustrator.

My medical artwork has won numerous awards and been included in exhibitions in New York, Milan, Haifa, Tokyo & Los Angeles. Artwork included cartooning and I have authored a book of cartoons titled  "Medicine Is Not Pretty". I am a Fellow of the Association of Medical Illustrators, and the founding President of the Vesalius Trust, an educational foundation benefiting biomedical communications.  I inherited an interest in orchids and model railroading and enjoy woodworking.

Marriage to Victoria (Vicki) Helene Damm in Houston was on November 17, 1990. As an engagement gift, my father's best friend, Edward S. Wright, presented Vicki with her very own orchid hybrid: Cattleya "Vicki Andrews."
