Colonel Philip Ross ANDREWS (III), USAF Retired

Philip prefers to be called PR be his friends. He was born at Schilling A.F.B. in Salina, KS January  19,  1960.  He graduated from Burkburnett High School in Burkburnett, TX in 1978 and earned a BBA at the University of Texas at Austin in the summer of 1983.

He entered the US Air Force Officer Training School at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX.  Philip was commissioned a second lieutenant on 13 Dec 1983 by his father, himself a retired USAF Colonel, who administered the oath of office and pinned on PR's gold second lieutenant bars assisted by PR's fiancee, Mary. Forrest W. Andrews, Jr. and James R. Andrews also attended the commissioning ceremony.

Four days later on 17 Dec 1983 PR married Mary Elizabeth Davies, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Davies, Sr., in Chapel One at Randolph AFB, TX. Their honeymoon consisted of the drive across the country to Mather AFB in Sacramento, CA, and thus began their nomadic life together. PR began navigator training at Mather and on 1 January of 1984 and was awarded his navigator wings the following summer. After attending B-52 training at Castle AFB in Merced, CA, PR was off to sunny Guam in August of 1985 where he  was  a B-52 navigator in the 60th Bombardment Squadron.

Next PR was selected for pilot training so he packed up and was off to Vance AFB in Enid , OK in May of 1987. He was awarded his pilot wings the following year in June of 1988 and moved down the road to Cannon AFB in New Mexico for F-111 training. He completed F-111 training in April of 1989 and was assigned to Royal Air Force (RAF) Lakenheath Airbase in Suffolk, England. He was stationed there for six years. After three years of flying the F-111, he transitioned to the F-15E Strike Eagle. While stationed at RAF Lakenheath PR flew in Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Provide Comfort, and Deny Flight accumulating more than 250 combat hours and receiving six Air Medals.

PR returned from England in 1995 to fly a desk at the Headquarters Air Force Staff at the Pentagon. He is currently a Major and works in the Power Projection Division of the Plans and Programs Directorate as the Air Force F-15E and F-117 force programmer.

Phil and his family have a home a few miles south of Washington DC in Stafford, Virginia. He and Mary have two daughters, Katharine Lynn, called Katie, born 29 July, 1985 in Dallas, TX and Elizabeth Jane, called Libby, born 17 April, 1991 in England. Phil is working toward his Masters Degree in business administration, and Mary is working on her Masters in education while substitute teaching in the areas.
