Wedding Details for Ida and Forrest - and other matters
"This article is from the 17 Dec 1896 edition of the Decatur Daily
Review: 'Forrest W Andrews and Ida L Morgan were married yesterday
afternoon at 4 o'clock by Justice Odor at his office. The wedding was an
extremely quiet affair, though considerable preparation was made for it.
The preparation consisted principally in the Justice requesting the
loafers who congregate about his stove to discuss points of law, to
leave the room for a while, after which the doors were locked. This was
done at the request of the contracting parties, who announced to the
Justice that they wanted the wedding to be performed as secretly as
possible. The groom refused to hear of a soul being allowed to witness
the ceremony until he was told that two witnesses had to be present when
he consented to J.C. Hane and Frank R Shull being admitted. Mr. Andrews,
the groom, is a proprietor of the restaurant at 129 East Main St and the
bride has been his cashier for several months.'
Then this corker appears on 23 Dec 1897: "To Whom it May Concern: My
wife, Ida L Andrews, having left my bed and board without any just
provocation, I desire to give the public notice that after this date I
will not be responsible for any debts she may incur. Forrest W Andrews,
Decatur IL, Dec 23, 1897." This separation must not have lasted too long,
as their first of three sons was born in Dec 1898.
