Louisa Jane Pate Morgan
Shortly after a doctor had been sent for Mrs. Louisa Jane Morgan died
Wednesday about midnight of heart disease. She has been ill for a long
time and her death though sudden is not a surprise to her relatives.
During the afternoon, Wednesday, Mrs. Morgan was around the neighborhood
of her residence on South Colfax Street, and seemed as well as usual.
About 9 o’clock a neighbor came in to get some buttermilk and Mrs.
Morgan herself got it for her. Then, she complained of being short of
breath, and went to bed.
Nothing special was thought about the attack, as Mrs. Morgan has often
had them, until she said she was all choked up and could hardly
breathe. Then she complained of her heart action being intermittent,
and her breathing was so disturbed that her son, Charles Morgan, went
for the doctor, W.C. Bowers, who has attended his mother, and for her
sisters and relatives. In a few minutes she was dead.
Mrs. Morgan was a widow, her husband, Samuel Morgan, having been dead
about fifteen years. She has lived for twenty-five years in Decatur,
and at the time of her death was 65 years of age. She was born in
Christian County in this state. To the union with Samuel Morgan, a
large family was born.
The following children in order of their birth survive Mrs. Morgan: Mrs.
Mary F. Wilson of Bethany, William J. Morgan of Decatur, Mrs. Etta Stone
of Blue Mound, Mrs. Alta Whitesides, Mrs. Ada Lunn, Mrs. Ida L. Andrews
and Mrs. Lucy Nelson, all four of this city, Charles and Arley Morgan,
also of Decatur. At the time of her death Mrs. Morgan had been living
with her two sons, Charles and Arley, her sister, Mrs. Wilson Rice, who
has made her home with her recently, and the two children of a dead
sister, Charles and Ida Hedden. Mrs. Morgan has two other sisters, Mrs.
Elizabeth Fry and Mrs. Olive Butticker. Arrangements for the funeral
have not yet been made, but it will be held some time Friday.
