These are
just some opening ideas to consider. The intent of this page is to collect ideas
for the Sparkettes and use as a register of their decisions. Having this makes
it easy for folks to contribute to the Sparkettes w/o having to live in Decatur
and always attend face-to-face meetings. Each item should be 1) accepted, 2)
rejected, or 3) modified by the Sparkettes.
Consider:
If we wish to have
background music, I'll acquire CDs from the 40s and 50s and donate them. |
Consider:
We should consider having
something in print for the Classmates to include all the events, their
locations, times and anything special they might need to know. If this idea
is accepted (and provided I have all the info) I'll do the preparation to
the satisfaction of the Sparkettes and have all the copies made here = my
nickel. |
Consider:
We should consider
the timing to include
weather/heat/etc and schools back in. As soon as the event is generally
pegged, we could start announcing via e-mail (no postage costs yet); Since you did not ask my opinion, here it
is: mid-Sept to mid-Oct is the best weather, kids are back in school, etc. |
Consider:
We should
consider seeking some money
to support this. I have zero idea how much we now have or how much we need
up front. This is the REALLY BIG ONE for us and we need to treat it as such; |
Consider:
We should consider
seeking a room 'rate' (maybe $10 better than AAA or AARP) at a good area motel (e.g.,
Country Inn or the one on Wickles Road west of town - south side of Route
36) to facilitate events away from SSCC - possibly including a Dutch Treat
lunch or dinner for those who wish to attend; if we set up early enough, our
folks could book early at the room 'rate' offered; |
Master of Ceremonies (MoC):
You have asked that I be
MoC for 2013. I am happy to do that. To support this I suggest the
following: |
1. My
hearing problem needs to be accounted for. Having someone w/ me to 'hear'
would be most helpful; |
2. We
should operate to an event 'script' to make sure we get everything
appropriate included. This 'script' should include a welcoming statement,
remembrance of those passed and in ill-health, a toast to our ladies,
any admin announcements, etc; |
3. We
should have a good sound system in place at SSCC (at least); |
4. For the closing event, at the end, we
should have a closing prayer and best wishes for safety and happiness - then
adjourn into a major hug-a-thon. Regretfully, this will be the last we see
of some of our friends in this life. |
Consider:
We should consider a Theme
for 2013 - consider 'Friends and Memories' or
something similar; |
Consider:
We should consider
some events away from SSCC as were
held in 2008; |
Consider:
We should consider
some appropriate nick-nack giveaways
for the event - we did this at Proms as I recall; |
Consider:
I did a truly lousy job taking
photos. We should have something better to record this event - and possibly
publish something afterward for the Class = that would cost some $$$. The idea of a CD and/or DVD (CD is best)
is great. |
Consider:
I offer to make the name
tags and will take care of any and all costs associated with that; |
Consider:
Nancy King had a good
idea that we have some arrangement to 'swap chairs' so we see everyone. This
requires some thought but it might be feasible and helpful to expand our
contacts; |
Consider:
We should do better
announcing what things are intended to 'take away' with the attendees. I
brought home name tags and grade school photos intended for anyone to take; |
Consider:
Paul Osborne, Editor of
the Tribune, is Class of '57 and a great champion of everything Decatur.
Consider inviting him as our guest - maybe with a good photo spread of our
55th to follow; could also invite the Editor of the Herald and Review; |
