Biography

Decatur - David " Dave" M. McCarty, 69, of Decatur, passed away at 12:15 pm Monday, November 9, 2009 at Aspen Ridge Care Centre.

Graveside services celebrating David's life will be held at 2:30 pm Friday, November 13, 2009 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Ruppert officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. David was born June 14, 1940 in Decatur, the son of Leland Merle and Frances L. (Rogers) McCarty. He married Wanda Mason early in his life and later divorced, and had one son: William David.

David enjoyed bowling, fishing, watching Illini basketball and doing word puzzles. He was a house painter and was a manager for the Curve Inn Restaurant.

Surviving are his son: William David, his brother Ralph D. and his wife, Sherry, of Bolingbrook, IL, three cousins, one niece, four nephews, three great-nieces, five great-nephews including Tommy Leslie, two great-great nieces Mackenzi Sargeant and Arianne Leslie, and one great-great nephew Zachary Sargeant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers: Thomas and Ronald McCarty.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to David's niece, Cheri (Otto) Leslie, and great-niece, Stephani (Scott) Sargeant, for their love, care, and attention during David's time of need. A special thanks to Dr. Perdekamp, Dr. Newlin, Dr. DePaz, and Dr. Sobol, Aspen Ridge Nursing Home Staff, nurses and staff at DMH on the 4th floor, ICU, and Oncology.
