Chico Mills, Tiggerdale Plant - Paper Products

Chico Mills, Tiggerdale Plant, produces a wide variety of paper from brown wrapping paper and newsprint to fine writing paper and "Squeezably Soft" discreet tooshie paper.  Chico Mills is named from Man's best friend, now passed.  Chico Mills property stretches from south Petesboro all the way to Lucyville, with easy access to the flag stop at Tiggerdale.  The Company employees 797, mostly from the Stonefield Valley.  The owners are unknown to SV Management and, as long as they pay their bills, we don't really care.

Chico Mills brings in wood chips, pulp wood logs, liquid starch, dyes, and a variety of acids and other chemicals in their paper production.  Fuel oil is also brought in for the new steam power plant.  Chico Mills generates significant rail traffic for Stonefield Valley.

The original Chico Mills building was the "old" pulp plant established in 1887.  This is a mechanical pulp operation with a very high yield of low grade brown pulp suitable for paper bags, wrapping paper and newsprint.  The brown pulp was originally sold to other paper mills in the northeast.  In 1891 a finishing mill was added to permit production of finished products as previously noted.  A portion of the brown pulp beyond the requirement of the new finishing mill was still being sold.  The paper business was very good and expanded continuously.  In 1935 a new pulp mill was added.  This one was a chemical mill with a low yield of very high grade white pulp.  In 1937 a new power plant was added to support the growing operation.  All the white pulp was being sold until 1939 when a new finishing mill was added to process the white pulp into very high grade writing paper, gift wrapping paper, ultra fine tooshie paper, nasal tissues, and other specialty paper products.
