City of Sallytoon and Associated Arrival and Departure (A&D) Yards

Sallytoon (ST), named for Sarah Caroline Andrews Neely of Salem, Oregon, is a major city to the south of St. John.  Sarah (aka Sally) is a highly accomplished and talented pianist and certified bell ringer at her church.  The name "Sallytoon" was a nick name attached to very young Sarah Caroline Andrews by Forrest Wm Andrews, Jr., of Decatur, Illinois and more recently of Lebanon and Salem, Oregon.

Sallytoon is a junction point between the Susquehanna and Stonefield Divisions of the Railroad.  Sallytoon also serves as an important rail junction for the Branch to Billsgate to bring northbound coal from Keays Mines in Billsgate.  Empty coal cars returning to Keays Coal are routed back through Sallytoon.

For the immediate operating needs of the SV, there are large arrival and departure yards at Sallytoon and a small classification yard.  For handling this rail traffic, there are eleven A&D tracks at Sallytoon.  Additionally, there are limited engine servicing facilities, a small machine shop for repair-in-place [RIP] support and crew facilities to support train crew changes (e.g., railroad YMCA).  Due to the trackage rights for the various railroads, engine leasing and for periodic power pool assets, it is very common to see engines and cabooses from several railroads at ST and numerous freights cars of foreign roads from all over this County and Canada.
