Railroad Consortium: The Stonefield Family Lines
When the roadbed repairs were being completed north of Petesboro to Binghamburg, the potential of the Bridge line became a reality. Stonefield Valley Railroad Management saw a business potential to expand and leverage this opportunity by creating a railroad business consortium with Cibolo Valley Railroad, Carolsburg and Genesville Railroad, and Keays Coal Company. Each company brought something to this consortium and expanded the rail connections to the world's market places.
As this business arrangement became a reality, it was mutually advantageous to extend all the same business factors to the all Consortium Members. As the consequence of this decision, these railroads all share the costs and expenses on the same basis as the SV, at considerable lower rates than we charge foreign roads for trackage rights. Considering the added rail network each member brought to the Consortium and the interchanges provided, it is highly profitable to all.
Cibolo Valley Railroad (CVRR)
Cibolo Valley was chartered originally as a Class 2 Railroad by Dr. Philip Wm. Andrews of San Antonio, Texas. On his passing, the ownership went jointly to Professor William M. Andrews and Colonel Philip R. Andrews, USAF. CV Home Offices are in Augusta, Georgia.
CV operates throughout the east and southeast United States with numerous interchanges with Class 1 railroads to greatly expand their role in freight forwarding. One branch of the CV comes to the Baltimore and Ohio yards at Hagerston, Maryland and then north, on trackage rights, to Harriston and the direct link with the SV.
Carolsburg and Genesville Railroad (C&GRR)
C&G was chartered as a Class 2 Railroad by Dr. and Mrs. Miles Eugene (Gene) St. John of Carolsburg, Pennsylvania. C&G operates between Genesville and Homer, Pennsylvania and on trackage rights through Johnnieburg to Al Tuna, Tyrone and Harriston. C&G has important interchange rights at Equinishoofuscurvis with Glen White Run Railroad for shipment of hard wood logs to the SV for Johnstone Hardwood Mills at St. John. C&G also has branches to Whiteford, near Pitts Place, and Andrews Summit, running near Wheeling, West Virginia.
C&G Company Offices are located at Carolsburg, Pennsylvania with Carol St. John as Chairperson and Gene as Superintendent.
Keays Coal Company (KCRR)
Keays Coal Company was chartered as a Class 3 Railroad initially from Billsgate to Sallytoon with no roadbed. That's OK. With the creation of this Consortium, KC purchased their own rolling stock to move coal from their mining operations at Billsgate to Sallytoon and further into the coal markets of the northeast United States on SV trackage.
KC Company Offices are located at Billsgate.
Peabody Coal Company (PCRR)
Peabody Coal Company acquired rolling stock to operate on trackage rights on SVRR for 2 runs per day, daily except Sunday, one southbound and one northbound. These runs are between Peabody Junction near Oncle Raaf, just south of Binghamburg, to Sallytoon. The PCRR operates as a limited partner in this consortium. Everyone is happy.
